2 journalists injured in Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon

Journalists were reporting on damage from Israeli attack on bridge on Litani River

ISTANBUL

Two journalists were injured in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon on Thursday while they were covering an attack on a bridge a day earlier, according to witnesses.

Witnesses said the two journalists were “intimidated” by a drone strike that hit nearby as they were reporting on the damage caused by an Israeli attack on the Qasmiyeh Bridge on the Litani River.

Another Israeli strike targeted the bridge as the two reporters were conducting a live broadcast near the site, injuring the pair, they added.

Lebanon’s state news agency NNA identified the two journalists as RS correspondent Steve Sweeny and his cameraman.

The Israeli army has escalated its airstrikes across Lebanon in recent days amid cross-border attacks with Hezbollah, despite a ceasefire deal that has been in place since November 2024.

According to Lebanese authorities, at least 968 people have been killed and 2,432 injured in Israeli strikes across Lebanon since March 2.

The current escalation followed a joint US-Israeli offensive on Iran, which has killed around 1,300 people since Feb. 28. Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, along with Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries, which it says are targeting “US military assets.”
