The YPG/PKK terror group on Wednesday carried out armed attack on Peshmerga forces in Iraq with heavy weapons, an official from the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) said.

A group of eight armed YPG/PKK members attempted to enter Iraq's Kurdish region through Syria illegally, the KRG Deputy Peshmerga Minister Sarbast Lazgin told reporters in Erbil, northern Iraq.

When the Pesmerga forces realized them at the border, some 50-60 YPG/PKK terrorists carried out attack with heavy weapons on the Peshmerga position in the region, Lazgin said.

The official underlined that the US-led international coalition forces have been providing weapons and aid to YPG/PKK under the pretext of combating Daesh/ISIS for years.

Lazgin did not share any details about the number of casualties.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and the EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. The YPG is the PKK’s Syrian offshoot.
