Virus cases, fatalities climb in Eurasia, Central Asia

Virus cases, fatalities climb in Eurasia, Central Asia

NUR-SULTAN, Kazakhstan

Coronavirus cases and fatalities continued to rise across Eurasian and Central Asian countries on Wednesday.

Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan reported 1,759 more virus cases over the past 24 hours, raising the overall count to 63,514.

Recoveries increased by 2,097 to reach 38,008, while the death toll stands at 375, the Health Ministry said.

Ukraine

The number of infections in Ukraine rose by 836 to reach 55,607, including 3,967 children and 7,540 healthcare workers.

Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said 15 more COVID-19 patients died in the country over the past day, bringing the death toll to 1,427.

Recoveries climbed to 28,131 with 977 additions, he said.

Armenia

In Armenia, 515 more people tested positive for COVID-19, raising the total count to 33,005.

The Health Ministry reported 11 more virus-related fatalities, bringing the death toll to 592.

A total of 21,348 patients have recovered and 10,996 more remain under treatment, the ministry said.

The country has carried out 139,220 tests to date, according to the ministry.


Kyrgyzstan

Coronavirus infections in Kyrgyzstan rose by 439 to reach 11,977.

According to the Health Ministry, 11 more fatalities raised the death toll to 160.

Recoveries have increased to 3,660, while over 6,000 patients remain under treatment, the ministry said.



Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan reported 300 more virus cases over the past 24 hours, raising the overall count to 14,293.

Three more fatalities took the death toll to 68, while 259 more recoveries increased the total to 8,327.

The Health Ministry said over 1.2 million coronavirus tests have been carried out so far, with 75,000 people currently under medical surveillance.



Georgia

Four new virus cases raised Georgia’s total to 1,034.

Fifteen COVID-19 patients have died in the country so far, 873 have recovered, and over 5,600 people are under quarantine.

Tajikistan

Tajikistan’s virus cases stand at 6,643, including 56 fatalities.

A total of 5,332 COVID-19 patients have recovered in the country so far.

Global situation

COVID-19 has claimed more than 579,300 lives in 188 countries and regions since emerging in China last December.

Over 13.34 million infections have been reported worldwide, with the US, Brazil, India, and Russia currently the worst-hit countries, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.

The data shows more than half of all patients worldwide have recovered so far.
