Turkiye's road motor vehicle registrations jump 11% in 2021

Over 1.15 million road motor vehicles were registered in Turkiye during 2021, marking an 11% rise compared to the previous year, the country’s statistical authority said on Wednesday.

The number of withdrawn road motor vehicles decreased by 11.2% to 42,924, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).

Cars accounted for more than 53% of all vehicles registered last year, followed by motorcycles at 22% and small trucks at 14.6%.

As of the end of December 2021, the total number of road motor vehicles registered in Turkiye totaled some 25.25 million.

“Cars represented 54.3%, small trucks 16.3%, motorcycles 14.8%, tractors 8.0%, trucks 3.5%, minibuses 1.9%, buses 0.9% and special purpose vehicles 0.3%,” according to TurkStat data.

The average age of these 25.25 million registered vehicles was 14.5 years.

The figure was 13.6 for cars, 15 for minibuses, 14.8 for buses, 12.8 for small trucks, 17.6 for trucks, 13.7 for motorcycles, 13.6 for special purpose vehicles and 24.3 for tractors.

In the month of December 2021, 65,562 road motor vehicles were registered in the country, an annual decrease of 23.1%.
