ANKARA (AA) – Turkiye reported more than 107,500 new coronavirus cases on Thursday.

The Health Ministry confirmed 107,530 new COVID-19 infections, 233 related deaths, and 88,014 recoveries over the past day. As many as 455,463 virus tests were done during this period.

To counter the spread of the virus, the country has administered over 142.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines since it launched an immunization drive in January last year.

More than 57.4 million people have received a first jab, while over 52.4 million are fully vaccinated. Third booster shots have also been given to more than 25.3 million people.

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter that the omicron variant is responsible for the "unusual rapid spread of virus," adding that the reported cases are generally experiencing mild symptoms.
