Turkish stocks up 0.43% at midweek close

ANKARA

Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 1,091.80 points on Wednesday, up 0.43% from the previous close.

After starting the day at 1,095.29 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 4.64 points from 1,087.16 points at Tuesday's close.

On Wednesday, the BIST 100 hovered between 1,066.13 and 1,100.56 points – 48 stocks on the index rose, 47 fell, and the remainder were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of some 804 billion Turkish liras ($116 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 23 billion Turkish liras ($3.2 billion).

Shares of glass manufacturer Sise Cam, real estate investment trust Emlak Konut GYO, and private lender Garanti BBVA saw the highest trading volumes.

Stocks of glassmaker Trakya Cam did the best, rising 10%, while shares of Karel Elektronik, which makes and supplies telecommunication equipment, did the worst, losing 7.11%.

One ounce of gold sold for $2,044.00 by market close, up from $1,983.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $45.86 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Wednesday.

At the beginning of this year, a barrel of Brent oil sold for around $58.
