Turkish stocks hit new high at Wednesday's close

ANKARA 

Turkey’s benchmark stock index hit a new all-time high on Wednesday, rising by 0.63% to close at 1,559.28 points.

Starting the day at 1,559.77 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 9.75 points over Tuesday’s close of 1,549.53 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 1,545.26 and 1,567.88 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.1 trillion Turkish liras ($156 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 36.7 billion Turkish liras ($5 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by glass manufacturer Sisecam, flagship carrier Turkish Airlines and conglomerate Dogan Holding.

Conglomerate Bera Holding was the best performer, with its shares up 9.97%, while mining company Koza Madencilik, dropped the most with 4.51%.

One ounce of gold sold for $1,852.90 by market close on Wednesday, down from $1,860.60 at Tuesday's close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $56.22 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Wednesday.
