KARS, Turkey (AA) – Turkish police arrested eight suspects in raids held in several provinces for their alleged links to the PKK/KCK terror group, security sources said on Friday.

In the northeastern Kars province, anti-terror police, cooperating with the Office of Chief Public Prosecutor against the terrorism, found that the terror group was working to recruit more people and gain ground.

Police arrested eight people in Kars-based operations after they found that the suspects were carrying out work for the PKK/KCK in the city center and districts.

The anti-terror raids were also conducted in Istanbul, Igdir and Diyarbakir simultaneously.

Police also seized a rifle and cartridges, a pistol, documents related to the terror group, and digital materials when they busted the homes and workplaces of the suspects.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and the European Union -- has been responsible for the deaths of over 40,000 people, including women, children and infants.
