Turkey's foreign minister held phone conversations with his Italian and Lebanese counterparts on Wednesday, according to a source in the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

Mevlut Cavusoglu and Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio discussed matters related to Libya, the Eastern Mediterranean, and the European Union.

The details of Cavusoglu's conversation with Lebanese Foreign Minister Charbel Wehbe, who was appointed to the post on Monday, were not shared with the media.

The phone call came in the wake of Tuesday’s massive blast at the port of Lebanon’s capital Beirut, which has left at least 100 people dead and over 4,000 injured.

Cavusoglu was among a host of top Turkish officials, including President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who extended condolences and offered assistance to Lebanon immediately after the blast, which also injured at least six Turkish nationals.
