ISTANBUL 

Turkey's benchmark stock index was up 0.42% to close Tuesday at 1,210.41 points. 

After starting the day at 1,208.98 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 5.04 points over the previous close of 1,205.37 points.

The index reached its highest level since Feb. 6.

During the day, the index hovered between 1,202.35 and 1,213.65 points. 

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 888.5 billion Turkish liras ($109.33 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 22.5 billion Turkish liras ($2.85 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 53 stocks on the index rose, 43 fell, and four were flat compared to Monday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti, glass maker Sisecam, and private lender Sekerbank.

The Industrial Development Bank of Turkey was the best performer, with its shares up 10%, while stocks of food firm Kerevitas dropped the most, losing 3.29%. 

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,890 by market close, down from $1,915 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $42.45 per barrel as of 6:15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Tuesday.
