Turkey's Borsa Istanbul falls at midweek close

ANKARA

Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the day down 0.45% to close at 110,574.68 points on Wednesday.

Starting the day at 110,563.36 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index slipped 499.02 points from 111,073.69 points at Tuesday's close.

During midweek trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 110,105.80 points and 110,848.19 points -- 26 stocks on the index rose, 69 fell, and five were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of nearly 735.3 billion Turkish liras ($128.6 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 8.6 billion Turkish liras ($1.5 billion).

By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.55 billion), private lenders Garanti BBVA ($7.63 billion), and Akbank ($7.15 billion) were the top companies on the BIST 100.

Shares of national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, iron/steel company Kardemir, and Garanti BBVA posted the highest trading volumes.

Shares of energy and construction company Isiklar Enerji Yapi Holding (IEYHO) were the best performer of the day, rising 12.73%, as stocks of pharmaceutical manufacturer Deva Holding (DEVA) suffered a 4.02% slide, the biggest drop of the day.

An ounce of gold sold for $1,477.00 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,479.00 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil was around $65.72 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Wednesday, ranging between $65.56 and $66.03.
