ISTANBUL

Turkey's benchmark stock index was down 0.85% to 114,808.56 points in the closing session of the last transaction day of the week.

After starting the day at 115,450.93 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 985.03 points from Thursday's close of 115,793.59 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 112,829.41 and 115,450.93 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was 833.8 billion Turkish liras ($121.67 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 22.87 billion Turkish liras ($3.3 billion).

On Friday, 21 stocks on the index rose, 76 were down and three were flat compared to Thursday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by real investment trust firm Emlak Konut, private lender Garanti and glass producer Trakya Cam.

Automotive firm Karsan was the best performer, with its shares up 7.52%, while conglomerate Net Holding dropped the most, losing 4.82%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,807.20 by market close, down from $1,809.45 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $42.80 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Friday.
