ISTANBUL

Turkey's benchmark stock index decreased 1.03% to 115,314.98 points in the closing session of Wednesday.

After starting the day at 117,168.08 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 1,209.81 points from Tuesday's close of 116,524.78 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 115,122.55 and 117,357.88 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was roughly 839.08 billion Turkish liras ($122.6 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 24.55 billion Turkish liras ($3.58 billion).

On the third transaction day of the week, 46 stocks on the index rose, 53 were down and one was flat compared to Tuesday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by iron/steel producer Kardemir, private lender Garanti and defense giant Aselsan.

Real estate investment trust firm Torunlar GYO was the best performer, with its shares up 9.91%, while automotive company Dogus dropped the most, losing 4.98%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,777.90 by market close, up from $1,770 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $41.60 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Wednesday.
