ISTANBUL

Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 110,785.38 points on Wednesday, down 0.38% from the previous close. 

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 110,959.21 points. As of daily close, it lost 421.89 points from Tuesday's close of 111,207.27 points.

During the day, it hovered between 110,678.33 points and 112,898.65 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 772.3 billion Turkish liras ($124.7 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 11.2 billion Turkish liras ($1.8 billion).

On the third transaction day of the week, 17 stocks on the index rose, 82 were down, and one was flat compared to Tuesday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by defense giant Aselsan, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines and private lender Garanti.

Celebi Hava Servisi, which provides integrated ground services at airports, was the best performer, with its shares up 4.17%, while air carrier Pegasus dropped the most, losing 7.76%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,645.30 by market close, up from $1,602 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $52.45 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Wednesday.
