Turkey's Borsa Istanbul closes week at record high

ISTANBUL 

Turkey's benchmark stock index was up by 0.64% to close the week at 1,408.32 points -- a historic high level.

Starting the day at 1,398.26 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index earned 8.96 points over Thursday's close of 1,399.36 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 1,396.03 and 1,410.32 points. 

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.04 trillion Turkish liras ($133.8 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 22.26 billion Turkish liras ($3.02 billion).

On the last transaction day of the week, 63 stocks on the index rose, 34 fell, and three were flat compared to Thursday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, real estate investment trust Emlak Konut GYO, and the Industrial Development Bank of Turkey.

Paper and cement producer Akcansa was the best performer, with its shares up 9.99%, while stocks of paper and carton producer Kartonsan dropped the most, losing 10%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,877 by market close, down from $1,878 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $52 per barrel as of 6:20 p.m. local time (1520GMT) on Friday.
