Tunisia imposes new measures to stem coronavirus

TUNIS

Tunisia announced new measures Thursday to curb the spread of coronavirus after witnessing a spike in infections.

A government statement said measures would be implemented until Nov. 15 and will include a nighttime curfew in all provinces from Monday to Friday, between 8 p.m.- 5 a.m. local time (1900GMT - 0400GMT).

The curfew will continue Saturdays and Sundays from 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. (1600GMT and 0400GMT).

Also, movement between provinces will be prohibited, except for work, students and exceptional cases that can be justified.

Education in primary, middle schools and institutes will be suspended until Nov. 8, as well as the suspension of classes in universities for two weeks.

Public and private demonstrations, access to places of worship and gatherings of more than four people in public will be prohibited, with the exception of transportation.

Tunisia has registered 54,278 coronavirus cases and 1,153 deaths.
