Trabzonspor narrowly beat Alanyaspor to join title race

ANKARA

Trabzonspor toppled Aytemiz Alanyaspor 1-0 in a nail-biting Turkish Super Lig match on Sunday to join the title race.

Home team Trabzonspor broke the deadlock in the 67th minute as Iranian defender Majid Hosseini converted the penalty successfully.

Trabzonspor and Alanyaspor were each down to 10 men during this match. Trabzonspor midfielder Abdulkadir Parmak was sent off in the first half after a sliding tackle.

Near the end of the match, Alanyaspor winger Junior Fernandes was shown the red card for protesting the referee's call. In the 81st minute, he was shown his first yellow card after a foul.

In the 83rd minute of the match, Trabzonspor could have doubled the gap but Hosseini missed the penalty kick, risking the narrow win.

Trabzonspor moved up to the third spot with 19 points. Alanyaspor had 19 points as well but the Mediterranean team were down to the fourth place in the league table.

In week 11, Demir Grup Sivasspor topped the Super Lig with 21 points. They were followed by Fenerbahce who earned 20 points.

Separately, Besiktas beat Yukatel Denizlispor 1-0 at Vodafone Park as the Black Eagles' French winger Georges-Kevin N'Koudou netted the winning goal in the 70th minute.

Besiktas scored 18 points to reach the eighth spot in standings.
