Magnitude 6.4 quake hits Greek island Crete

ANKARA

A magnitude 6.4 earthquake shook Greece’s Crete Island on Saturday, according to Turkey’s disaster agency.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said the closest residential area to the region in Turkey was the Datca district of Mugla on the Aegean coast and no incident was reported from the area.

The quake struck off the coast of Crete island at 15.51 local time (1351GMT), AFAD said on Twitter.

Aftershocks at magnitude 5.2 and 5.9 hit the Mediterranean region.
