Japanese boxer Hiroto Kyoguchi contracts COVID-19

ISTANBUL

Japanese WBA light flyweight super champion Hiroto Kyoguchi has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, local media reported on Monday.

As a result, his world title bout, which was scheduled for Tuesday, has been postponed, according to Kyodo News.

Kyoguchi. 26, was to fight against Thanongsak Simsri from Thailand for his world title in May but the game was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Both boxers are currently 14-0 as professionals. Kyoguchi gets nine victories by knockout, while Thanongsak 12.

His cornerman (coach or trainer who assists during a fight), who is in his 50s, has also contracted the virus.
