ANKARA 

India and Philippines on Thursday confirmed their first cases in the coronavirus outbreak which originated from China.

In India, the case was reported from the southern Kerala province. The Philippines Health Ministry also confirmed the first case of the virus in the country but gave no details, the Manila Times reported.

An Indian student who returned from Wuhan, capital of the Hubei province and the virus’ epicenter, reached Kerala Thursday and tested positive for the coronavirus, the Indian Express reported.

A student of Wuhan University, the patient has been kept in complete isolation.

The virus, which originated in the city of Wuhan, has caused at least 170 deaths in China, while nearly 7,711 others were infected with the virus, which is said to have been transmitted to humans from animals, particularly bats. The virus has reportedly spread to every province of China.

India’s Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that it asked the Chinese government for permission to operate two flights to bring home Indians from the Hubei province.
