COVID-19: World Swimming Championships postponed

ANKARA

The 2020 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) has been postponed for one year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the governing body for water sports announced on Thursday.

The competition was supposed to take place in Abu Dhabi in December 2020 and it was postponed at the request of the UAE authorities.

The championship will now take place on Dec. 13-18, 2021.

“We have worked in close co-operation during the last weeks with the UAE authorities on this matter and we believe this is the most suitable solution for all those taking part in this competition. The Abu Dhabi rendezvous in December 2021 will be a great achievement and will once more be a strong inspiration for the development of Swimming and Aquatics in the region,” Dr Julio C. Maglione, the head of FINA, said in a statement on Thursday.
