MINSK, Belarus

Coronavirus cases and fatalities continued to rise across Eurasian and Central Asian countries on Friday.

Kazakhstan

Coronavirus cases increased to 66,895 in the country, while the treatment of 26,175 patients is still continuing in the hospitals, health authorities said.

At least 89 new fatalities in the country pushed the death toll to 464.

Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan reported 471 fresh cases of the virus, bringing the tally to 26,636. The death toll reached 341 with seven new deaths. A total of 17,805 people have so far recovered from the disease.

More than 610,500 tests have so far been conducted in the country. A total of 8,490 are still receiving medical treatment.

Moldova

Moldova reported 230 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total to 20,494.

Nine more people died of COVID-19 in the country, raising the death toll to 675. A total of 13,913 people have recovered.

Belarus

In Belarus, another 159 people were confirmed to have contracted the virus, bringing the total number to 65,782. The number of recoveries reached 57,370 and the death toll hit 491 with six more deaths.

Over 1.17 million tests have so far been conducted in the country.

Uzbekistan

In Uzbekistan, 133 more people contracted the virus, raising the tally to 15,482. One more fatality brought the toll to 77, while the recoveries rose to 8,783.

The Health Ministry said 6,622 people were currently receiving treatment.

Tajikistan

At least 45 new cases in Tajikistan pushed the overall count to 6,786, including 5,483 recoveries and 56 fatalities.

Worldwide

Since first appearing in China last December, the novel coronavirus has spread to at least 188 countries and regions. The US, Brazil, and Russia are currently the countries hardest hit in the world.

The pandemic has killed 593,072 people worldwide, with more than 13.92 million confirmed cases and over 7.79 million recoveries, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
