ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia

The number of coronavirus cases in Africa reached 382,652 on Monday, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said.

At least 9,657 people died of the virus, while 182,569 patients have recovered thus far, latest figures show.

Southern Africa region recorded 143,600 cases, North Africa 96,400, West Africa 73,900, East 35,800 and Central Africa 33,100.

North Africa suffered 4,100 fatalities, Southern Africa 2,500, West Africa 1,300, East Africa 100 and Central Africa 716.

At least 71,300 patients have recovered in Southern Africa, 40,400 in West Africa, 38,100 in North Africa, 16,500 in East Africa and 16,200 in Central Africa.

South Africa has the continent’s highest figure in terms of infections with 138,100, while Egypt follows with 65,200.

In terms of death toll, Egypt suffered 2,800 virus-related deaths while South Africa registered 2,500.

At least 565 patients have died in Nigeria, 572 in Sudan and 313 in Cameroon.
