The number of deaths in Australia from the novel coronavirus increased to 91, local media reported on Thursday.

An 86-year-old woman lost her life to COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, in Tasmania, the ABC news reported.

The official figures suggest that around 560,968 people have been tested across the country and 5,717 out of 6,752 infected people have recovered.

No active cases around capital territory

The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) has reported that it has no active coronavirus cases, and it is the first jurisdiction to declare itself free from the virus. The territory is home to some 420,000 people.

ACT Chief Health Officer Kerryn Coleman said the situation is pleasing, however, the epidemic is ongoing and people should keep following directives.

The ACT is expected to gradually relax coronavirus restrictions over the achievement.

More than 3.3 million Australians have downloaded the COVIDSafe app since its launch early this week. The figures were announced on Thursday by chief nursing and midwifery officer, Alison McMillan.

The government urged that 10 million people need to download the app, which helps in tracing coronavirus contacts, for it to be effective.
