Turkey has administered over 108.7 million coronavirus vaccine jabs since the country launched an immunization drive in January, according to official figures released Tuesday.

More than 53.6 million people have received their first dose, while over 44 million are fully vaccinated, the Health Ministry said.

The data showed that some 86% of the country's adult population has received at least one dose of a two-shot vaccine.

Turkey has also given third booster shots to over 10.2 million people.

Meanwhile, the ministry also recorded 28,892 new coronavirus cases and 239 related fatalities over the past day.

Turkey’s health minister said the number of COVID-19 cases among those aged 0-17 has doubled over the last three weeks with the re-opening of schools.

A wanted PKK terrorist was neutralized in an operation led by Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization in northern Syria, according to a security source.

Other developments

An independent commission assigned by the World Health Organization (WHO) to investigate allegations of sexual abuse by its staff in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) said that 83 suspects have been identified, prompting the WHO’s chief to issue an apology.

China said the Asia-Pacific region "does not need" a new military bloc, urging NATO to maintain its original geographical position and play a constructive role in the region's peaceful and stable development.

Meanwhile, electricity outages and “rationing” at peak hours in most of northeast China would contribute to global inflation, an expert warned.

North Korea fired a short-range missile into the sea off its east coast, South Korea’s military said Tuesday.

Japan decided to end the state of emergency in the country imposed to curb the COVID-19 pandemic, local media reported.

The year 2020 was the worst for the Palestinian Authority (PA) since its establishment in 1994 due to the Israeli occupation and the coronavirus pandemic, the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) said.
