MERSIN, Turkey

Turkish police have arrested six people for their alleged links to the PKK/KCK terror group, security sources said on Tuesday.

As part of an investigation launched by prosecutors in the southern Mersin province, arrest warrants were issued for nine people for their alleged involvement in the so-called youth camp of the terror group, the office of provincial prosecutors said in a written statement.

The suspects were rounded up in operation conducted by the local gendarmerie forces, while remaining three suspects are wanted.

Many digital materials and documents related to the terror group were seized in the searches at addresses, while laptop and external hard drives were also confiscated to be examined.

The suspects allegedly took an active role in the terror group’s neighborhood, women and youth camps, recruited PKK's rural staff, and participated in demonstrations organized against the security forces on Oct. 6-7, said a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

They also allegedly got a short-term training in the terror group, and joined the so-called PKK/KCK youth camp after returning back, added the source.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU -- has waged a terror campaign against Turkey for more than 30 years, resulting in the deaths of nearly 40,000 people, including women, children and infants.
