ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia

The number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases in Africa rose to 12,700, up by 208 cases, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Saturday.

In a surveillance update on Saturday, the African CDC said 666 patients have died from coronavirus-associated ailments.

The previous day’s COVID-19 death toll had stood at 649.

It added that 2,050 recoveries have so far been recorded.

The virus has so far spread across 52 of the continent’s 54 countries.

South Africa, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Senegal, Cameroon and Ivory Coast are the countries hardest hit by the virus.
