KABUL, Afghanistan

At least 21 students got injured as a blast rocked state-run university in Afghanistan's Ghazni province on Tuesday morning, an official confirmed.

Spokesman for the police headquarters, Ahmed Seerat, told Anadolu Agency the improvised explosive device was planted under a chair at the Ghazni University campus leaving 21 students including 15 female students injured.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Last month, a protest against an alleged air raid causing civilian casualties in Ghazni turned violent with many protesters injured after clashes with the police.

The central Ghazni province remains as one of the most insecure regions in Afghanistan, with militants controlling some swaths of land.

Recently, Afghan forces backed by U.S. air power managed to reclaim some territory from the insurgents, resulting in deadly clashes in various pockets of the country claiming many lives on all sides.
