ISTANBUL 

Anadolu Agency is here with a rundown of the latest developments on the coronavirus pandemic and other news in Turkiye and around the world. 

Coronavirus and other developments in Turkiye

Turkiye reported more than 76,300 coronavirus cases Tuesday, according to the Health Ministry.

The ministry registered 76,341 new infections, 174 deaths and 82,203 recoveries over the past day. Also, 418,427 virus tests were done in the last 24 hours.

To stem the spread of the virus, the country has also administered more than 141 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines since it launched an immunization drive in January 2021.

More than 57.36 million people have received their first jab, while over 52.29 million have received their second shot, the latest ministry data showed. Turkiye has also given third booster shots to 24.48 million people.

Other developments worldwide

People should not be anxious because the situation in eastern Ukraine is "under control," Ukraine’s president said Tuesday.

The leaders of Germany and France on Tuesday demanded that Russia take steps to de-escalate tensions with Ukraine and support efforts for a diplomatic solution to the crisis.

Britain's prime minister warned Tuesday that a Russian invasion of Ukraine would be "tragic and futile" and would be met with a united response from NATO.

The South Korea’s military claimed Tuesday that North Korea test-fired two suspected cruise missiles from a land area, which if confirmed would be the fifth missile test this month, local media said.

Italian lawmakers failed for a second day in a row to elect a new president as the cross-party deal needed to break the stalemate remained elusive.

Power supply disruptions have been reported in major cities of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday, according to international media outlets.

Russia confirmed a record number of new COVID-19 infections Tuesday for the fifth day running, registering 67,809 cases and pushing the overall count to 11.24 million.
