ISTANBUL (A.A) - February 24, 2012 - Turkish branch of Doctors Worldwide began the "Health Spring in Sister Geographies" aiming to provide health services in Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, Yemen and Libya.
As part of the "Emergency Medicine Assistance Project", doctors from Turkey would visit Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Libya and Gaza six times in 2012.
Speaking at a press conference in Istanbul, Chairman of the Executive Board of Doctors Worldwide, Prof. Dr. Ihsan Karaman, said that "Doctors Worldwide were established in Britain in 2000 and their Turkey branch was opened in 2004. Our doctors contributed to the health sector in more than 30 countries affected by natural and human related disasters".
We have around 1,000 volunteers in Turkey some of which are doctors, health personnel, medical students, engineers, journalists and house wives, Dr. Karaman noted.
We have felt a need to provide health services to our close geography after the humanitarian crisis there. We will treat the injured people and those who need surgeries, Dr. Karaman also said.
