Ukraine’s president signs decree for visa-free entry of foreign volunteer fighters

KYIV, Ukraine

Ukraine’s president signed a decree early Tuesday allowing visa-free entry for foreign volunteer fighters.

“From March 1, a visa-free entry regime has been introduced for foreigners wishing to join the International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine temporarily for the period of martial law,” said the decree.

The decision does not apply to Russian citizens.

The International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine is a volunteer foreign legion military unit created by the government of Ukraine at the request of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to fight against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine on Sunday invited foreigners who are willing to defend the country against Russia to join the fight.

“Foreigners willing to defend Ukraine and world order as part of the International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine, I invite you to contact foreign diplomatic missions of Ukraine in your respective countries,” Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Twitter.
