LONDON
The British government has updated its official maps showing Palestine for the first time following the prime minister's announcement on Sunday, formally recognizing Palestine as a state.
Britain has updated its maps of the Middle East to cite the state of Palestine for the first time after Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced the UK's official recognition of Palestinian statehood on Sunday.
In its travel advice page, the British Foreign Office map shows Palestine (West Bank) and Palestine (Gaza), which were "Occupied Palestinian Territories" until Sunday.
The Foreign Office page said: "This page has been updated from 'Occupied Palestinian Territories' to 'Palestine.'"
It came after the UK, joining more than 150 countries, officially recognized the state of Palestine, Starmer announced ahead of the UN General Assembly.
"In the face of the growing horror in the Middle East, we are acting to keep alive the possibility of the peace and the two-state solution," he said in a video statement.
