Ukraine’s senior negotiator Rustem Umerov on Monday announced that he will brief President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later today on the latest consultations held between Kyiv and Washington in Florida.
“Today, we will provide the President of Ukraine with full information on all aspects of the dialogue with the American side and all documents,” Umerov said in a statement on US social media company X.
Umerov’s remarks came as he and Ukrainian Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov held talks with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in Miami.
“The primary task of the Ukrainian team was to obtain from the American side complete information about their conversation in Moscow and all drafts of current proposals in order to discuss them in detail with the President of Ukraine,” Umerov said, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s meeting with Witkoff and Kushner in Moscow last Tuesday on the US-proposed peace plan.
He went on to say that they, together with “all partners,” must do everything possible for a “dignified” end to the over three-and-a-half-year war, adding the Ukrainian side is working “as intensively as possible.”
On Saturday, the Ukrainian president said he had “substantive” talks with Witkoff and Kushner over the phone, after the three-day consultations in Miami, noting he is now waiting for a “detailed in-person report."
“Not everything can be discussed over the phone, so we need to work closely with our teams on ideas and proposals. Our approach is that everything must be workable – every crucial measure for peace, security, and reconstruction,” he added.
Zelenskyy is due to visit London on Monday, where he will meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, as European leaders seek to steer US-led peace negotiations on a peace in Ukraine, according to Bloomberg.
Meanwhile, Trump said earlier that he is "a little bit disappointed" that Zelenskyy has not yet read the latest peace proposal for ending the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
Trump told reporters on Sunday as he arrived at the Kennedy Center that Russia is "fine" with the proposal, but added: "I'm not sure that Zelenskyy is fine with it. His people love it, but he hasn't read it.”
