MUGLA, Türkiye
The Embassy of the Netherlands in Ankara launched an initiative Thursday to plant 10,000 saplings in southwestern Türkiye in celebration of the centennial of Turkish-Dutch friendship.
A planting ceremony took place in the Türkiye-Netherlands Friendship Forest in the Marmaris district of Mugla province which was established in 2022.
The event commemorated the 100th anniversary of the 1924 Friendship Treaty signed between both countries.
It also monitored the growth of trees planted previously in the memorial forest.
Marmaris Mayor Acar Unlu highlighted the role of nature in fostering friendship and described the initiative as a meaningful blend of nature and camaraderie.
Ambassador Joep Wijnands extended well wishes to those participating in the planting.
“Today, we are celebrating our 100-year friendship in Marmaris,” he said in the Turkish language. “We have come together to further strengthen these special bonds. This beautiful friendship will live on forever.”
