The European Union on Wednesday condemned the execution of a Swedish citizen in Iran.
"The execution of a Swedish citizen by the Iranian regime is a brutal act of senseless violence and we condemn it," the bloc said in a statement issued by the European External Action Service (EEAS).
The statement also reiterated the EU's call for Iran to "halt all executions and to abolish capital punishment."
"The Swedish citizen was held in captivity since June 2025. The European Union offers its deepest condolences to the victim’s family and expresses its full solidarity with Sweden," the statement added.
