LONDON

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson told local media on Friday that Queen Elizabeth II was “back at her desk” after she stayed overnight in hospital on Wednesday.

Johnson told reporters: "I think everybody sends Her Majesty our very, very best wishes. And certainly, we have from the government."

"But I'm given to understand that actually Her Majesty is characteristically back at her desk at Windsor as we speak. But we send her every possible good wish," he added.

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace said Queen Elizabeth II, 95, “remains in good spirits,” and that she was admitted to hospital for “preliminary investigations” but was back at Windsor Castle by Thursday afternoon.

The queen returned home after spending a night at a hospital for medical checks, Buckingham palace said earlier in a statement.

"Following medical advice to rest for a few days, the Queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations, returning to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today, and remains in good spirits," according to the statement released Thursday night from the palace.

She was seen by specialists at King Edward VII’s hospital, where royal family members prefer to go for medical issues, in central London.

The queen had to cancel a trip to Northern Ireland earlier this week after her doctors advised a few days of rest.

The monarch’s overnight stay at the private King Edward VII Hospital in London on Wednesday was her first overnight stay in eight years since she was admitted to the hospital since her gastroenteritis problem in 2013.

Local media reported that the queen’s hospital stay was not related to COVID-19.

The queen will celebrate 70 years on the throne next year.
