Russia says it took control of another settlement in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region

Russia’s Defense Ministry said Friday that its forces had taken control of another settlement in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region.

The ministry said in a statement that it had captured the village of Zybyne, located about 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) south of the Russia-Ukraine border.

On Wednesday, Russia said it had also taken control of the nearby village of Vovchanski Khutory.

Ukraine has not yet commented on Russia’s latest claim, and independent verification is difficult due to the ongoing war.

Meanwhile, Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, said Friday that Russian forces attacked Kharkiv with several drones, injuring one person and causing a fire in a residential area.

Despite an increase in Russian attacks and claimed advances, Ukraine has highlighted its asymmetrical tactics.

"We grind them down. Russia is losing more than it can replace. Every square kilometer costs them 254 troops," the Defense Ministry said on social media this week.

It also said Friday that it had struck a Russian drone facility in a part of the Russian-occupied Donetsk region.
