Türkiye's natural gas imports decreased by 13.9% in April 2022 compared to the same month of 2021, according to data from Türkiye's energy watchdog on Tuesday.
Natural gas imports amounted to around 4.06 billion cubic meters (bcm) from approximately 4.72 bcm for the same month of 2021, Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) said in its monthly natural gas market report.
EMRA's data showed that the country imported 3.45 bcm of natural gas via pipelines in April, while 613 million cubic meter was purchased as LNG, marking a decrease of 16.7% in pipeline imports and an increase of 6.14% in LNG imports.
Russia supplied the most gas to Türkiye at 1.88 bcm, while Iran and Azerbaijan followed with 837 million cubic meters (mcm) and 733 mcm, respectively.
Gas imports from Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan decreased by 24.9%, 3.41% and 4.83% respectively in April compared to the same period last year.
The country's total gas consumption also decreased by 6.59% to approximately 5.13 bcm compared to the same month last year.
Household consumption decrease by 3.36% to 2.32 bcm, and gas usage in power plants decreased by 24.5% to 672 mcm during the same period.
Natural gas volumes in storage in April 2022 decreased by 34.6% to around 1.32 bcm compared to about 2.03 bcm in April 2021.
