Turkey's daily electricity consumption increased by 0.98% to 1,087,592 megawatt-hours on Friday compared to the previous day, breaking the previous record high set on July 29, according to official figures of the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAS) on Saturday.
As temperatures continue to rise and electricity demand increases throughout the country, a new record high was set on Friday, superseding the 1,079,547 megawatt-hours recorded on July 29.
Hourly power consumption peaked at 52,456 megawatt-hours at 15.00 local time (1200 GMT), data from TEIAS showed. The country's electricity usage dropped to its lowest level of 35,929 megawatt-hours at 07.00 local time (0400 GMT).
Electricity production amounted to 1,097,515 megawatt-hours on Friday, marking a 0.9 % increase from Thursday.
Turkey's electricity production from natural gas plants constituted 36.9% of total electricity consumption, hydropower plants contributed 15.8% while imported coal powerplants comprised 15.7%.
On Friday, Turkey's electricity exports amounted to 12,881 megawatt-hours, while imports totaled 3,071 megawatt-hours.
