Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed on Monday to strengthen ties between Moscow and Muslim countries through joint projects at interregional and interstate levels, citing an upcoming international economic summit to be held in Kazan, the capital of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan.

His remarks came three days before the 14th International Economic Summit: Russia-Islamic World: Kazan Forum 2023, of which Anadolu Agency is the global communication partner.

The three-day economic forum will kick off on May 18, when representatives from international organizations, public and financial institutions, officials from embassies, lawmakers, investors and businesspeople will participate.

Putin described the Kazan Forum as 'a reputable and popular platform for holding major representative business events,' emphasizing that it will also help Russia and Muslim countries 'find new partners, promote agricultural and industrial cooperation, and create new transport and logistics chains.'

'Russia enjoys traditionally close, trust-based relations with Muslim states, both bilaterally and as part of our interaction with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation,' Putin said, adding that 'these relations are built on partnership, respect for each other's sovereignty and civilizational identity.'

'We are united by a common desire to create a more just multipolar world order that is based on international law,' he said.

The forum will also host a panel in which experts will discuss Islamic financing, the halal industry, international cooperation, logistics, industry, sustainable development and environmental, social and governance (ESG), IT technologies, innovation and sanctions, as well as small and medium enterprises, education, sports and medicine.

'The Islamic world is actively developing and has important accomplishments in trade, finance, innovations and applied scientific research. Russia is open to extensive business and cultural cooperation with Muslim countries,' the Russian leader said, pointing to the Russian Muslim community, which he said will 'play an important role in expanding international contacts.'

The event, which hosted about 6,000 delegates from 64 countries last year, will also feature the 'Russia Halal Expo' and 'Russia Halal Market' exhibitions, as well as the 'Modest Fashion Day' fashion show for conservative clothing.
