German technology giant Bosch signed long-term solar power purchase agreements with RWE, Statkraft, and Vattenfall to procure a total of 107 MW solar capacity, Bosch announced in a statement on Wednesday.
From 2021 onward, the project will provide energy up to 30,000 households or 70% of the electricity consumption at the Bosch site in Feuerbach.
The contract with RWE Supply & Trading is to supply it with renewable energy for 16 years for a capacity of 50 MW.
Statkraft has been supplying Bosch with solar power as of May 2020 under a 12-year 47 MW capacity deal.
In compliance with a 12-year deal, Vattenfall plans to complete its 10 MW solar power plant by early 2021 to enable solar power supply to Bosch.
Pointing to its goal to be fully carbon neutral by the end of 2020, Bosch said its German sites already achieved this goal at the end of 2019. The company intends to significantly increase its renewable energy consumption by 2030.
'By signing this agreement, we are taking the next step towards implementing Bosch's ambitious climate protection programme,' Andree Stracke, Chief Commercial Officer Origination & Gas Supply at RWE was quoted as saying in the statement.
“Climate change isn’t taking a break, so neither are we. By the end of the year, we will achieve our ambitious goal of no longer leaving a carbon footprint,” said Volkmar Denner, Chairman of the Board of Management of Robert Bosch GmbH.
