EU finance ministers will convene via videoconference on Monday to exchange views on the EU’s recovery fund priorities. Ministers will also discuss the candidacies to replace Yves Mersch, the outgoing executive board member of the European Central Bank (ECB).

President of the European Council Charles Michel and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen will represent the European Union and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will represent Ukraine at an EU-Ukraine summit that will take place on Tuesday in Brussels. The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell will also participate. Leaders will review bilateral relations, the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, EU support to Ukraine and the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

The EU’s economy and finance ministers will gather via videoconference on Tuesday to discuss the Recovery and Resilience Facility, the main instrument of the recovery package to support countries coming out of the coronavirus pandemic. They will also hold an exchange of views on the digital finance and the legislative proposals on crypto-assets.

The European Parliament’s plenary session will take place in Brussels this week.

On Tuesday, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will comment on the results of the special European Council meeting, in particular tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Parliament will vote on a legislative initiative on Wednesday that envisages a permanent EU mechanism that applies the rule of law for EU funds.

Parliament is set to decide on the appointment of Commissioner-designate Mairead McGuinness and on the new portfolio allocated to Executive Vice-President Dombrovskis on Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, MEPs will discuss the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.

EU’s ministers of home affairs will meet via videoconference on Thursday to exchange views on the new proposals for a pact on migration and asylum, presented by the European Commission on Sept. 23.

Member states will also discuss the latest developments and initiatives on cooperation with non-EU countries on migration issues and the development of police cooperation.

Justice ministers of EU member states will gather via videoconference on Friday to discuss the digitalization of member states’ judicial systems.
