SolarReserve, a U.S.-based utility-scale solar power project developer, will build a 150-megawatt solar thermal power station with 1,100 megawatt-hours of energy storage capability in South Australia, the company announced on Monday.
The Aurora Solar Energy Project will be the first of its kind in South Australia and 'the largest project of its kind in the world,' the company said.
SolarReserve signed a long-term generation project agreement with the South Australian government on Monday.
The plant will be able to store eight hours of energy to be used at a later time.
'Aurora will deliver power into the National Electricity Market at high value electricity periods, providing additional capacity, energy security and reliability services, as well as competition into the South Australian market,' the company said.
The project will create 4,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs during construction.
As part of the project, SolarReserve will establish a research partnership with South Australian universities to advance solar thermal research and education in South Australia, the company added.
