The Turkish capital Ankara is saving around 90 million Turkish lira ($30 million) per year thanks to switching from public buses running on diesel to those running on compressed natural gas, CNG.
Ankara has been using CNG buses for more than seven years and has a fleet of 1,289 CNG buses for public transportation representing 76 percent of the city's total public buses.
According to sources from Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, CNG has 76 percent lower carbon emissions than conventional fuels and is more economical to run than either oil or gasoline.
According to Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, a CNG bus saves 71 thousand Turkish lira ($23.8 thousand) per year and with the maximum capacity use of CNG buses, it creates a 90 million Turkish lira saving per annum.
