Statoil launches operations center to boost performance

- Center aims to add value, cut emissions and boost safety on Norwegian Continental Shelf

Norway's Statoil will establish a new onshore integrated operations center in 2018 to help increase safety, add value and reduce emissions from installations on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS), the company announced on Tuesday.

Statoil said the new center will be an important step in the company's digital roadmap, and will enable increased production efficiency and production potential on the NCS.

It noted that from a 10-year perspective, its ambition to increase production from the operated fields could lead to a total annual value creation of around NOK 10 billion ($1.23 billion) before tax.

"The establishment of the center contributes strongly to our ambition of being a global digital leader. It will enable us to optimize production and better predict support needs, ensuring optimally efficient and safe operations from our operated fields," Statoil’s Chief Executive Officer, Eldar Saetre said.

Statoil added that the center will initially be set up to support installations on the NCS, but may in the future also be relevant to onshore plants and the company’s international offshore operations.
