Russia's crude oil exports have significantly shifted towards Asia and Oceania, while export to Europe has declined since 2020, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) on Thursday.
Crude oil and condensate exports from Russia slightly decreased from 4.8 million barrels per day (b/d) in 2024 to 4.3 million b/d in the first half of 2025, data showed.
Although the change in oil export volumes were modest, the destination has changed in 2022 following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, EIA said.
Europe used to be a big importer of Russia's crude oil and condensate, with 51% in 2020. However, this volume fell to 12% in 2024 and 11% in the first half of 2025.
Over half of Russia's exports to Europe went to Türkiye in 2024 and 2025 so far.
The oil exports from Russia to Asia and Oceania have increased robustly over the last five years, from around 41% in 2020 to an approximate of %82 in 2025.
Exports from Russia to China increased by 500,000 b/d between 2020 and 2024, and China remains the largest importer of Russia's crude oil and condensate, averaging 2.2 million b/d in 2024 and 2 million b/d in the first half of this year.
Exports from Russia to India rose from about 50,000 b/d in 2020 to 1.6 million b/d in the first half of 2025.
