Russia's state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom is working with Brazil on cooperation in the field of rare earth elements, the company's director general said Thursday.
Rosatom Director General Aleksey Likhachev told reporters in Moscow that the company attaches importance to developing partnerships with Brazil in the mining sector.
He noted that the initiative for cooperation came from Brazil.
"There are various estimates regarding Brazil's potential in both rare earth elements and uranium deposits. Our work is currently at an initial stage," Likhachev said.
The Rosatom chief added that the two countries are also discussing several projects in the field of peaceful nuclear energy and related technologies.
Brazil is estimated to hold around 21 million tons of rare earth element reserves, ranking among the world's leading countries in such resources.
