CPTI to supply refueling machines for Akkuyu NPP

- Supply of refueling machines for first unit of Akkuyu nuclear power plant is scheduled for 2022

Contract for the supply of refuelling machines of the units of Turkey's Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) has been signed with Central Institute of Design and Technology (CPTI), an enterprise of Russian Atomic Energy Corporation's (Rosatom) fuel company TVEL, Rosatom announced in a statement on Thursday.

Under the contract, CPTI will provide development of the technical documentation, supply refueling machines for each power unit at Akkuyu NPP, and installation.

According to the statement, CPTI has already begun to develop the technical project and necessary design documentation for manufacture of the refueling machines for the first unit of Akkuyu NPP and its supply is scheduled in 2022.

The equipment supply for all four power units is to be provided by 2025, completion of installation - by early 2026. The equipment will be manufactured in Russia.

The refueling machine is designed for nuclear fuel loading and replacement of spent fuel with fresh fuel assemblies during the operational cycle of a power unit. The total weight of the assembled refueling machines will be approximately 55 tons.
