Areva sells New NP to French-Japanese consortium

- French EDF group, Japanese Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Assystem acquire nuclear company New NP

French nuclear company Areva SA, through its subsidiary Areva NP, sold all of its shares in nuclear services company, New NP, to a consortium consisting of the French EDF group, Japanese Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and an international engineering group Assystem on Dec. 31, 2017, Areva announced on Tuesday.

The majority shareholder of New NP, which employs nearly 14,000 people, is now EDF with a 75.5 percent share while MHI and Assystem hold a 19.5 percent and a 5 percent stake, respectively.

New NP is an international player in the nuclear energy market with value-added technologies for designing, building, maintaining, and advancing a global nuclear fleet.
The company designs, manufactures, and installs components and fuel for nuclear power plants and offers a full range of reactor services, according to the company.
