Norwegian energy company Statoil will sign a contract with Norwegian oil service company Aibel for the construction of a platform on the Johan Sverdrup field, the largest oil field on the Norwegian continental shelf, Statoil said on Tuesday.
The contract - worth in excess of 926 million euro, will include engineering works, procurement and construction of the drilling platform deck.
Aibel will build the deck at its yard in Thailand and Norway and will deliver it in 2018.
“The Johan Sverdrup field is one of the biggest discoveries on the Norwegian continental shelf that will, for its entire lifetime, be a pillar for Norwegian industry and value creation for the Norwegian society. On behalf of the partnership we are looking forward to a close cooperation with Aibel in order to ensure a safe and efficient delivery of this project,” said Arne Sigve Nylund, Statoil’s executive vice president of Development and Production in Norway.
The capital expenditure for phase one of the Johan Sverdrup’s project is estimated at approx. $15 billion and the full field development is estimated at $30 billion.
The expected recoverable resources from the field are anticipated to be between 1.4 and 2.4 billion barrels of oil equivalent.
Statoil expects its first oil production to start from the field in late 2019.
Statoil has a 40 percent share in the Johan Sverdrup field while Lundin Norway, a private oil company, holds 22 percent share, Petoro holds an 18 percent interest, Det Norske with 11 percent and Maerks Oil holds 8 percent.
